The New Zealand public health system provides outstanding care for acute conditions which can hit us all without warning. Unfortunately the public health system does not have sufficient funding to ensure people with non-acute conditions can also be treated swiftly enough to prevent the condition from causing them unnecessary long term discomfort.

Major Medical cover is designed to give you peace of mind should the unforeseen happen and the public health system cannot help you.

	Covers all surgical and non-surgical hospital admissions by reimbursing 100% of costs directly related to surgical treatment or admission to a private hospital up to a maximum level as determined by the insurer.
	Provides for the reimbursement of specialist consultations costs and diagnostic procedure costs not covered under the ‘Major Medical’ benefits. Reimbursement is subject to the insurers maximum level as determined within the policy wordings.
	Not a common benefit with today’s policies as this benefit is considered to be ‘dollar swapping’ and expensive. However you can have cover that will reimburse part or all of the cost associated with GP visits and the cost of prescriptions.
